New false alarm of PCTools Spyware Doctor
Thu, 05 March 2009
The version of Spyware Doctor included in the Google Pack is again incorrectly warning of a threat in Avira AntiVir
Tettnang, 5 March 2009 – PCTools attempted to eliminate a false alarm in their software with the last update of Spyware Doctor included in the Google Pack. Instead, another erroneous signature managed to enter the software which indentifies Backdoor.Bandok as being in the file ccev.dll part of Avira's AntiVir. It is another false alarm, the Avira Software is clean.
Avira's developers are once again in contact with the PCTools developers to rapidly remove the false alarm. Until then, we recommend that all users of the Google Pack deactivate Spyware Doctor.
Update: The update from PCTools is now available.
